The Jindal 3D-printed model of the mid-sagittal section of the skull, accurately replicating its internal and external anatomical features using high-precision digital human data, serves as a realistic alternative for studying skull anatomy.
The mid-sagittal section of the skull is a 3D-printed model that accurately represents both the internal and external views of the skull. This model replicates the visual appearance and tactile feel of a real mid-sagittal skull section. It effectively displays intricate anatomical features, such as bony protrusions on the outer wall of the nasal cavity, sinus openings, and other complex structures, making it a suitable substitute for an actual sagittal skull section.
Data Source: The model is created using selected data from a high-precision digital human dataset, which includes original sectional data, refined segmentation data, and a three-dimensional geometric model of organ structures such as bones, muscles, blood vessels, nerves, and ligaments. The voxel size of this dataset is 0.0384mm × 0.0384mm × 0.1mm. Additionally, cadaveric specimens fixed with formalin are used as a reference for comparison with the 3D-printed model.
Model Making: Voxels from the volume data on the surface of each anatomical structure are extracted from the original sectional dataset, and a texture map of the geometric model is generated to ensure that its visual appearance closely resembles that of real anatomical specimens.
